Zach Fuller is a former U.S. Army Green Beret whose life was shaped by the wars that followed September 11, 2001. He enlisted in 2004 and served as a Special Forces Engineer Sergeant, including combat deployments to Afghanistan. In that role, he operated in hostile and uncertain environments where trust, adaptability, technical skill, and commitment to the team were essential to mission success. His military service was recognized with multiple awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After leaving the Army, Zach faced a transition familiar to many veterans: moving from a life defined by mission, brotherhood, and service into a civilian world where purpose was less clearly defined. Rebuilding that sense of direction required him to translate the lessons of Special Forces into a new environment and discover how he could continue contributing beyond the uniform. That journey gave him a deep appreciation for both the challenges veterans carry and the extraordinary value they can bring to businesses, communities, and causes greater than themselves.

Zach found his next mission through entrepreneurship and business leadership. Early in his civilian career, he entered the real estate private equity industry and led efforts that raised more than $300 million in investment capital, developing the methodology and building the team that made the effort scalable. He later founded Silent Sector, a cybersecurity firm that serves organizations across the country with a mission to protect the backbone of the American economy and our way of life. Through this work, he has continued building capable teams, creating opportunity, and applying the lessons of military service to a new arena.

Today, Zach speaks about service, sacrifice, transition, leadership, and the enduring human need to belong to something greater than ourselves. Drawing from his experiences in combat, business, and life after the military, he encourages veterans to recognize that their capacity to serve did not end when they took off the uniform. He also challenges employers and community leaders to recognize the character, resilience, and potential found throughout the veteran community. Zach and his wife, Jennifer, live near Boise with their two daughters. His faith, family, and Idaho community remain central to his life and his enduring commitment to service.

2 Lights

Tribute in Light, the two beams of light that evoke the memory of the Twin Towers, is a commemorative public art installation first displayed on the six-month anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Since then, Tribute in Light, presented in partnership with Con Edison, has appeared in the night sky each 9/11 to honor those killed and shine a light on the unbreakable spirit of New York.

An extension of Tribute in Light supported by New York City Tourism + Conventions, Tribute in Lights provides a unique opportunity to pay tribute and increase public awareness of the anniversary. Buildings and landmarks throughout New York and across the country are invited to light their facades in blue from dusk to dawn on September 11.
